Water Lily Leaves
Six Mile Lake, Ontario - 2009

What this is...

Water lilies photographed in a calm lagoon of Six Mile Lake.

My thoughts on this image...

There is always something interesting in the reflections and motion of water and paddling around in a kayak with a camera is one of my favorite things to do on a sunny day. I've learned rather than be frustrated by drifting away from an image in a kayak, I've learned to sit back, relax, and see what image the kayak is taking me to.

This image is a result of just that practice. I had take several pictures of this group of water lilies until the kayak drifted into the right combination of reflections, motion in the water and the composition of leaves on the surface. There is a good deal of motion in this image and I love the way your eye is drawn by the leaves into the composition. The main group of leaves on the right form a gentle curve which is echoed by the dark shadow that is underlaying them.
