Late Winter Frost and Grass
Alliston, Ontario - 2006

Is there beauty in a frozen over ditch? In the late winter we get many freeze thaw conditions when during the day as the sun warms everything up the ice thaws and there is a good deal of humidity in the air. Then overnight the temperature drops and everything re-freezes including any moisture on the grass. The effect is a stunning excersize in texture and tone. This picture was taken early one morning prior to the suns rays melting the dusting of frost over the blades of grass, the paper thin layer of ice that formed over the ditch water allowed all the submerged grass to be revealed.
