Rotting Deck
Loon Lake, Ontario - 2007

The abandoned cottage next to the one we rent each year remains a source of facination for me. To the best of my ability to tell it has been at least 12 years since anyone has been here and strangely no one on the lake seems to know anything about this place, who owns it or what happened to them. The cottage is slowly being reclaimed by nature and each year there is further evidence of decay taking it's toll.

This image is of the boards of a deck off the kitchen and I can't help but wonder where the people are today who built this deck, painted it and then enjoyed it. From this deck there is a wonderful view of the lake and was likely a hub of activity during meals and quite time spent just enjoying the serenity of this place. Today, it is slowly rotting and will one day become a pile of rubble just as the memories that surround this place are slowly passing from human memory.
