What this is...

The world deep within a Pacific Coast rainforest.

My thoughts on this image...

Hiking along the forest path leading to the Skookumchuck Narrows it's more than possible to feel lost in time. What would this forest have looked like 10 or 20,000 years ago? With the exception of a marked trail... likely very much as it appears today.

All the really big trees are gone due to lumbering activities that happened long ago and the woods are still dotted with the stumps of what would have been venerable forest giants. Yet inspite of our perspective that the natural world is there to be taken and used for our own purposes without even a second thought to what may be lost in our path, the forest survives and thrives. These woods are so deep, so dense, so full of life and filled with the muffled sounds of nature, just closing your eyes is a portal to a time when the people who walked through these woods loved and respected them. The sounds, the smells, the humidity, filling your lungs with oxygen rich air all would have been part of their experience too.
