Mountain Slope
Elkford, BC - 2009

What this is...

The mountain side directly across for my brother Al's hunting camp in Elkford.

My thoughts on this image...

Every year I spend hours staring at these slopes with endless fascination. Each and every moment is different... the light, the shadows, the clouds, the morning snow that briefly rests on them in the early fall. It's when light snow dusts these slopes that every crack and crevise is revealed in all their glory. All the textures, tone and contrasts are suddenly hightened and the low angled shadows themselves form tone within tone.

It's a gray-scale study incarnate.

I love the look of these slopes just before the sun melts the snow and it always makes me think of God dusting them with icing sugar so we can marvel at the endless intricacies of the natural world.
