Mists of Time

What this is...

An aerial shot of an unknown mountain range in northern British Columbia.

My thoughts on this image...

Looking out the window of a plane flying over northern British Columbia, it's possible to imagine that no one has ever set foot on some of these mountain ranges. This area of the country is as raw, desolate and absolutely beautiful as anywhere on the planet, and for me it is a source of endless fascination and inspiration.

The interplay of clouds and mist, snow and rock will forever change in shape and composition and there is something awe inspiring about not being able to see everything clearly... the obscurity allows your imagination to run wild. Beyond the visual inspiration, the metaphysical passage of time in these places is incomprehensible to human beings. How many eons has cloud, mist and snow danced in these mountains? We will never know for sure.

Shooting pictures out the window of a commercial airliner has distinct limitations, but it is those limitations and the haze of shooting though so much atmosphere that lends an other-worldly quality
